Celebrating Our Patients
Mahaska Health Partnership celebrated National Patient Recognition Day on Friday, Feb. 3. Inpatients received a flower and card of thanks on their meal tray while outpatients and visitors were gifted MHP purple pens.
“We know our patients have a choice when it comes to their healthcare,” MHP Chief Nursing Officer Darlene Keuning said. “We are honored when they choose the quality care we offer at MHP.”
MHP celebrates National Patient Recognition Day because it is a special time for providers and staff to renew their commitment to making healthcare personal for patients. “Everything we do is centered on providing exceptional customer service for our patients,” Keuning said. “We continue utilizing best practices in healthcare to ensure the safety of our patients through quality initiatives and open communication between providers, staff and patients.”
Keuning said that the healthcare industry has focused on improving patient safety. “At MHP, our nurses now perform hourly rounding to increase patient satisfaction and decrease any adverse incidents, such as fall rates, by anticipating patient needs rather than reacting. We’ve also focused on patient education to assure that patients and caregivers understand the illness and the care that is needed after discharge.
“We continue exceeding many of the nationally-set quality standards for patient care,” Keuning said. “As an organization, MHP has made a commitment to make healthcare personal for our patients and visitors and we strive to act on that promise during every interaction.”
Keuning said staff is very excited that construction is moving forward on MHP’s new addition that will house Surgical Services, Inpatient Services and the Birthing Center. The addition will feature all private patient rooms, six labor and delivery rooms in the Birthing Center, expanded Surgical Services and is designed with increased functionality and convenience for patients and staff.
“Staff was involved in the design of the new patient wing and their primary objective was to make accessing healthcare services easier for our patients and their families. We are looking forward to having a facility at the same quality level as our staff and medical providers.”
