Home Health and Hospice Services

HomeHealth

We provide home health and hospice services throughout Mahaska and Keokuk counties, as well as surrounding areas, through the partnership of staff in our Oskaloosa and Sigourney offices as well as at the inpatient Serenity House. If you live in or near southeast Iowa and are in need of home care or end-of-life care, we’re here for you.

We understand that many of our patients wish to stay in their homes for as long as possible, and our staff is dedicated to ensuring that they do. The partnership between our Home Health program and Hospice Services means that we are uniquely able to meet each of our patients’  personal needs and give them the best possible quality of life.

Home healthcare can, in fact, be a cost-effective option compared with long-term residency in a care setting. Our skilled nurses provide at-home services including assessments, blood draws, wound care, IV therapy, medication instruction, and pain management, among others, while our Certified Nursing Assistants are in charge of daily living services, such as light housekeeping, bathing, meal preparation and errands.

When hospice care is needed in the home, we provide pain management, all therapies, and regular visits by RNs and CNAs. Our program includes Home Tele-Monitoring which allows patients, or their caregivers, to check vital signs daily. Then, the information is automatically sent for review by a Registered Nurse, so we can catch possible issues early. For more information on our Home Health Services for Mahaska and surrounding county residents, please visit our Home Health Services page.

Although hospice care is usually centered around the home whenever possible, in some cases, a patient’s symptoms can only be managed in an inpatient facility. Mahaska Health Partnership’s Hospice Serenity House opened in 2010 to meet that need in our community. It’s staffed 24-hours per day by Registered Nurses and Certified Nurses’ Aides who are specially trained to meet the needs of hospice patients. For more information about the Serenity House, please visit our Serenity House page.
